87 s-10 swap 2.8 to 4.3 advice

my old 87 s-10 came with the pos 2.8.had it since brand new and blew a head gasket ran hot anf f-d it up good.hahahahaha.anyway what sucks is i never dogged it and always babied it.died at 87000 miles.you believe that ? so im thinking about slapping in a 4.3.they came out on the s10 in 88.will it drop right in ?will the same tranny be ok ? im not trying to build a hot rod.i just want a good motor.i would like the air and cruise control to still work.the truck wont even be used much-but i would like it to run.looking for a price estimate to have this work done.im not a mechanic.also looking for recommendations.thanks

i was kinda thinking about grabbing the engine and transmission from a later model.youre saying i could put a 350 in for the same money ? wow.would it fit ok ? can you give me a cost estimate ?im not really trying to build a hot rod-but if it cost the same - why not ? boy that thing would get up and go.hahahahahah.that 2.8 is a piece of ****.so im definitelt not going back in with one of those.

Look into either a V8, which is the same amount of work as a 4.3L, or a 3.4L from a Comaro, which is a direct bolt in
Here's some links on the 3.4L swap

Re: 87 s-10 swap 2.8 to 4.3 advice

cost on the swap is between 2 and 3k if your an average joe, but that is a 4.3 to 350 swap, im not sure on numbers from a 2.8 to 350, your best option is what obp reccomended. that is to do a 3400 swap... either the 4.3 or 5.7 takes a different 700r4 then the one you have, you need the moter tranny, wiring, and fuel pump to the small block, also every one braggs a 3400 fits, but they are a rare bird to find, a 3.1/3100 fits also (did that one in the firebird) and i used every thing from the 2.8 except the block, the heads, computer and wiring was all 2.8 (did have to call jet and have a chip cut for the larger volume of air commen in...
