A cold dead S10 and On Foot

My baby (1989 4.3 Liter S10) has went and let me down. It was really cold the other night after work and I jumped in expecting a quick trip home. She started briefly then immediately died, never to start again.

I came back the next morning and tried a little starter fluid but no success.

Then I pullled the coil to distributor wire and turned the motor over. No spark. I tried a few times more and finally got a yellowish single spark that arched to the threaded rod which secures the air cleaner cover...and that's all she wrote!

I swapped the coil out of a 1988 4.3 liter S10 that I have and nothing happed. I put the coil in question from my 1989 back into the 1988 and it seems to run fine. My coil seems to be OK.

Could this be a dead pick up coil or is there something else I should be checking?

Thanks for your suggestion. It turned out to be a bad ignition module. I found an unused original equipment module on ebay for less than half the price and took care of the problem. My baby is out of the dog house.
