Ruff start after gas up

Need a little help with my 2001 sportage. After I gas up it turns over about 20-30 seconds before it starts, then it runs ruff for a while or until I get going, then goes away. Doesn't happen at all until I gas up again. I'm in the process of changing the cat and o2 sensor's but dont think that will fix the problem. Any input would be very much apreciated.

Thanks

From earlier reports, I would suspect the purge solenoid valve: www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/kiapurge.jpg
remove and clean...and see what is the result. Also make sure you tighten the gas cap after refueling.

We have been having some fuel quality issues in the midwest that I have noteed on a few Kias.

Several have been towed in form different areas with something in the tank that could not be considered gasoline.

What does the purge valve do? The gas cap I've tried and have even replaced it. Thanks for the info....

Re: Ruff start after gas up

The result of the action of the purge valve ends up in maintaining a pressure differential between fuel tank, atmosphere and return fuel lines. I do not have knowledge of the exact computer program scenario but (I did not have that problem myself so it is not my own experience) similar symptoms have been linked with this item lately in this or another Sportage forum. Since purge valve circuit is linked to vacuum plenum, an upset in pressure differentials "could" return fuel from full fuel tank splash direct to the intake manifold through vacuum lines, hence rich fuel burn like a flooded carburator.
