Selling a car

Hi All,

I'm selling a 1997 Chevy Astro Van that will not pass smog. I told the seller it does not pass smog and the buyer still wants to buy it. It is a running register vehicle. What can I put on the Bill of Sale to release myself of liability?

Thanks

Just include the words "SOLD AS IS - NO WARRANTY WRITTEN OR IMPLIED" in the bill of sale. Once the buyer signs the bill, it's their problem.

you'll also need to contact the DMV or Secretary of State and tell them you sold the car so that you're no longer responsible for it in their eyes in case the guy does something illegal with it before registering it in his name.
