Early 90s Cavalier thermostat whent bad. 4 banger, how hard to change, what is it buried beneath? How long will it take if I am just reading what you guys say?

On my 94RS 2.2 Its a piece of cake. Nothing in the way. 10 miute job tops.

I can't say for sure due to lack of owning the 4-cylinder motor, so hopefully someone else is more inciteful. I will, however, say that on the 3.1 motors it was insanely straightforward, just a metal housing that was attached to a hose that came out of the radiator. Bam, simple. Two bolts out, replace thermostat and put on a new gasket, replace bolts, done.

I haven't got a chance to look at it yet and it is on a pal's car. I am pretty much his mechanic. I didn't want to go in without having any idea what was happening, I was just making sure it wasn't effin buried.
Will coolant fly out of that hose when I disconect it? If so, how much is expected to come out.

You will lose a bunch of coolant,and you need to watch out for a brittle water outlet (gooseneck).If you try overtightening it,it will break and you will be waiting a day or so until you get one from your local auto parts store.Be careful,and if it looks corroded,get a new one anyway.
