checking transmission fluidusat212 02-23-2006, 04:54 PM I know this is going to sound stupid but I need advise on checking the transmission fluid on my sons 94 trooper. We check the fluid when it is running and it shows the fluid at the bottom of the dipstick, the dipstick has a H and a C on it, we then let it cool and check it again and the fluid is at the H. I thought it would stand for hot and cold am I wrong? I just don't want to add to much fluid to it mrmax13 02-24-2006, 10:25 PM I went out and spent the best 20 bucks I could have at the Chilton's website http://www.chiltondiy.com/index.aspx I also have a 94 Trooper (not the fancy automatic, though :sunglasse ) so this manual applies to your troop also. This is what the Chilton's manual has to say. "Check the automatic transmission fluid level at least every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or 12 months. The dipstick can be found in the rear of the engine compartment. Park the vehicle on a level surface with the engine idling. Shift the transmission into Park and set the parking brake. If you have driven for a prolonged period of time or in city traffic in hot weather, wait until the fluid cools down, about 30 minutes before checking the fluid level. Remove the dipstick and carefully touch the wet end of the dipstick, with your finger, to find out if the fluid is cool, warm or hot (if the fluid is hot, allow the vehicle to sit a while longer). Wipe the dipstick clean and then reinsert it firmly. Be sure that it has been pushed all the way in. Remove the dipstick again and check the fluid level while holding it horizontally. If the fluid feels cool, about room temperature-the level should be in the COLD range If the fluid feels warm, about normal operating temperature of 122-176°F (50-80°C)-the level should be in the HOT range" stompin60 02-28-2006, 04:00 PM Park the vehicle on a level surface with the engine idling. Shift the transmission into Park and set the parking brake. Usually you have to check the transmission fluid while the truck is running in neutral, not park. Maybe it says something different in the manual, but I personally have never heard of this. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
