Question Timing Mark Location- 1995 C1500 4.3 V6

I cannot locate the timing mark on my 1995 C1500 4.3 V6. Does the engine not have one? If it does not, do you have to have a scan tool to check the timing? Thanks.

I'm not sure what year it started but I know the 98 and later there was no timing to be set. Look at the lockdown clamp on the distributor and see if it will even let you turn the distributor. The later ones will only go in one position. You still have to get the timing gear in right so that it points at the right post but the distributor housing doesn't turn.

I just checked the Haynes manual (88-98)and it says "On 4.3L V6 engines, the distributor cannot be rotated, and if it could be, it would not affect ignition timing."

Someone else smarter than me could probably tell you why. All I can tell you is No.

95 is still TBI so the timing is adjustable. The timing mark is on the harmonic balancer. You may have to bump the engine a couple of times to see it.

The timing pointer is on the timing chain cover towards the drivers side. You also have to disconnect the EST wire when setting the timing.

I looked in the Haynes manual for the S10 94-01 since they use the 4.3 a lot more. The only ones that have adjustable timing is the 94 and 95 with a vin code "Z". I don't know if the vin code would be the same in the bigger trucks.

Thumbs up Re: Timing Mark Location- 1995 C1500 4.3 V6

I found what appears to be the timing mark, near the harmonic balancer, as one of you indicated, on the driver's side of the block. I also found the tan w/ black stripe EST connector, so it looks like I'm in good shape. Thanks, everybody.
