Monsoon on stereo = does it make a diffrence?
I see alot of after maket pontiac stereos for 95 firebirds and some say "MONSOON" and some dont. They look the same. Is their a diffrence or not? Is the Monsoon ones loulder or??
Also Will they allow a Pontic trunk mounted cd changer or a input for a ipod?
This may seem like a silly question but its really been eating at me.
Thanks

Re: Monsoon on stereo = does it make a diffrence?
Monsoon is just the name given to the stereo setup that came in out cars with 10 speakers. Models that weren't ordered with 10 speakers, only had 6 speakers. Yes they will allow a cd changer to be hooked up, but no they won't hook up to an Ipod.

The Monsoon system is like the BOSE system in today's cars, they have built in amplifiers that have codes encrypted disabling you to hook up aftermarket head units unless you buy a modulator to by-pass those codes, and no the ipod wasn't even thought of in 1995, and the monsoon head unit and sytem doesn't allways consist of a 10-speaker system, some monsoons have 6-speaker systems.

Actually.. they may have amplifiers but you can surely hook up an aftermarket head unit with no problem. Seeing as in how that's what I did and it sounds great even with having 4 blown speakers. As for the 6 speaker Monsoon sound system, I'd have to see that to believe it. Every monsoon system I've seen had the 10 speaker setup.

The Monsoon is a 500 watt system .With dual coil subs in the B pillars . It was only offered in the non-rag top T/A's in 2K year according to my brochure info book for mine .I added a Bazooka bass tube to mine . Rob

Also, the wiring harness is different from the standard radios . The door speakers and the rear hatch sets have 4 wires going to each corner . I gave up trying to upgrade those and just added the bass . Years ago , crutchfield would not list any info because of its complex design . Rob

You wanna know something else that was great about my 2000 SS Camaro, if you unplug the radio and drive the car it wouldn't put a mile on speedometer.

Re: Monsoon on stereo = does it make a diffrence?
Ive been wondering about this 6 or 10 speaks for firebirds. Ive a friend with a 2000 Ram TA and he says that there is a tweeter and a i guess mid-range speaker in the door. I just got done changing out a window motor in my 98 TA and all i saw was a single speaker. So, for the 10 speaker systems...where are they all located at? is it tweeter and mid or high-range speaker in both doors...that's 4. the 2 in the walls by back seat, that's 6. and also the 2 little component speakers in the side hatch compartments..that's 10 total. ?? let me know if im right about this.
