Help, Red spot on display

Good evening,

I have a 2000 Passat GLS. I just bouht it in November and love it. But I have 2 questions,

First one is, this past week i went to go somewhere and turned her on and on the display that shows the temp and mile per gallon and what gear you are in , now all of the sudden has a red blob on the top of the screen. Its brighter then the rest of the numbers, and you can see the outline (although its not red like when its on) when you have the engine off. What do i and how do i fix this?? Its annoying and also since i got it , if i drive it for a length of time, the display slowly disappears from the corners and doesnt return till it "cools" down it seems.

Second question is , I have had it into the dealer and the dealers had it to another garage because ever since i got it, when i come to a almost stop i get a big thud adn it shakes the car. and it sometimes is strong and sometimes lesser.. but it seems like the abs kicking in , but i dont feel it in the brakes, it just seems wrong when it happens... any suggestions??

Thanks for the help!!

:o)
