Few Manual-tranny questions

first off, i have a 95 sonoma (yeah i know i'm posting in the s10 forum, i just figured this forum would get more traffic, they're the same thing anyways) 2.2 w/ 5 speed (borg warner transmission, not nv1500), i was wondering whether i will need to to replace some stuff on my transmission. i was told that i might need to possibly replace the slave cylinder unless i can find an adjustment on it, from what i understand (sorry i dont know transmissions very well) my clutch is catching too high on my pedal. It's pretty much right at the top.

so my first question is, is this normal to have the clutch grab this high? where is it common that the clutch grabs on these trucks?

next, my transmission commonly makes somewhat of a roaring noise a little in 1st gear, and a more dominant roar in reverse. it also makes this sound if i let off the gas while it's still in gear and i'm just coasting (but when out of gear it doesnt make this noise).

so is this a problem or just common with these transmissions, if it is, what might i have to do.

lastly, if need be i have to replace the clutch, what else should i replace while the transmission is out and everything is easily available to change.

Re: Few Manual-tranny questions

I don't know about the adjustment on the S series trucks but the noise you hear sounds like the throw out bearing. This is what the fingers of your pressure plate rest on when you press the pedal. When you hear the noise rest you foot on the pedel and see it the noise stops. To change it you have to pull the tranny. Parts you should replace are the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Look at the fork close while you have it apart. If you see any signs of wear change it too. If you never done this before read up on it. You need to line everything up when you are re-installing it so the shaft from your tranny slips back in. Ask your local auto parts store if they have the tool that you can rent or borrow to line up the clutch.
