Angry It wont open

My 98 blazer hood wont open when I pull on the hood release.I tryed to open it from the front but it seems to be well protected with metal. I guess so not everyone can open your hood and swipe something.Anyone ever have this problem??

Re: It wont open

Pull the release and then give the hood a sharp fist rap in the center front above the latch mech and it will usually pop open (not so hard you dent it) - then spray some wd40 or silicon on the opening latch mech - common problem due to water blowing into the latch mech.

Re: It wont open

I've had the same problem. I usually can get it to open by tapping on the passenger side, just to the left of center, and it will pop up. I sprayed mine with lithium grease - it lasts a little longer that WD 40.

I agree with the light coating of grease. I use a rattle can filled with Dupont white grease to give just a light coating to that, door hinges, etc. When you have it open again, adjust your bump stops. If they are too high, it will hold the hood tight and won't release no matter how much lube you use.

Re: It wont open

as a thought, I had the same prob. the cable streches & won't pull the latch all the way. once I got the hood open, I took a small flat washer, cut a slot in it, put a dab of RTV on it & slid it onto the cable between the release lever and the little thingy on the end of the cable . works great and cheaper & easier than a new cable

Re: It wont open

After you pull the handle to release the hood push the handle back in and then go tap on the center of the hood and it may pop open.

Re: It wont open

Updates????

You could use WD-40 to try to get the latch unstuck, but don't try to use it as a lubricant. WD-40 was never ment to be and shouldn't be used as a lubricant, it could only function as a lubricant if there was the situation where dried lubrication material was already present and it rehydrated it or somethin along those lines. Use oil, or someting made to lubricate.

FYI if you didn't already know.

Re: It wont open

Try it with two people, Have someone push down on the hood as you pull the handle.

Re: It wont open

Try pulling the handle while you are driving it over a really bumpy road. That's how i got mine open.

Re: It wont open

If the cable is stretched see if you can pull it with pliers or some other tool on drivers side in the cab at the kick panel. If its broken the whole front grill is only held in with 11 push in clips -not sure if you can pull out the grill with the hood closed. Normally it just pops right out. Otherwise look in the drivers side wheel well front bottom thru the flex liner and see if can get to the cable.
Hope that helps.
