Im looking at getting a BMW 1994 525i but the problem is the car costs $2500 and it has 192,000 miles on it. Im going to have a few mechanics look it over but how long do these cars run? Do these older beamers hold up without costing millions to keep running?The body is almost perfect.

i have a 90 525i and it runs good had a few small problems needed spark plugs , heater valve , idle air thingy and now it runs perfect it has about 147k miles on it and it runs like its new. i would say its worth it for a 94 i paid 2500 and mine is a 1990

It's said that a well maintained BMW will go 250K easily. My 89 525 has about 160K on it and after spending a few hundred dollars this past year, it is really running good.

$2500 for a 94 is a good deal, but that is still a 12 year old car, and will require ongoing TLC and a certain amount of cash to keep it happy.

Of most importance is to change the timing belt asap upon getting the car, unless you have rock solid documentation that it has been recently replaced. Most folks will advise replacing the timing belt tensioner, and the water pump while you are in there, good advice since it's a pain to get to that stuff. (I had to take mine apart again to replace the squealing tensioner; a $25 part)

You may want to ask if any of the following have ever been replaced (if not you should plan on it soon): O2 sensor, throttle position switch, air mass meter, V-Belts, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires, idle air valve.

This is all based on work I have done on my 89 in the last year. You may have a few years before some of these need replacing on the 94.

Oh yes, it's also a good idea to have a mechanic look it over, and have a compression check done to find out if any major motor work is indicated.....
