Angry 2 large problems

Problem #1: I own a 1994 Blazer 4 wheel drive, the truck gets sorry gas mileage, about 180 miles to a tank. I am stationed in Germany and run it everyday on the autobahn, but no extreme speeds. The check engine light comes on every once in awhile and then goes off after awhile. Any suggestions? I did a tune up on it recently, plugs, wires, airfilter and am running royal purple. If if this is the EGR or pleneum problem where can I order the parts and please include EVEYTHING I need to fix this problem, I will be doing the work myself, and shipping over here in germany takes forever. I am pretty competent and have rebuilt stuff like this before, as long as I dont need to machine anything I should be good to go. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Problem #2: This is not a blazer, but I get great info from you guys so I thought maybe you could help. I also own a 66 ElCamino, I rebuilt a 69 350ci and it has been running great, I did a cam swap, ran it for 500 of so and went to change the oil and it smelled like gas, any suggestions? I have not driven it at all since I did the oil change, not even to move it. Thanks again for all the info!

well i kinda had the same problem with my gas mileage and check engine light...since its your check engine light it is emissions related...i replaced my purge control valve (not a pcv) and did a full tune up,which also ment the pcv. that took care of the problem...it first started that every now and then the light would come on...then it was constantly.

As for the check engine light on the Blazer, it would help if you get an OBD2 code reader and see if it has any codes that would explain the check engine light and the 10MPG you seem to be getting. If I were to take an off the wall guess (and don't hold me to this), I'd say the light could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. I have no idea why you'd only be getting 10MPG -- how does the engine run and idle? Does the power seem normal?

As for the El Camino, that takes me back many years. Sounds like a bad fuel pump leaking into the crankcase.

Power is normal, it runs real strong and smooth, no pings, chugging, NADA.

An OBD2 code reader isn't going to do you any good. Your 94 has OBD1. You can retrieve any codes using this method:

The cap and rotor should have been replaced when you did the tune-up. The fuel filter should have been changed too.

The best way to tell if you have a CPI problem is to pull the upper plenum. If there is no where that sells the gaskets, you can take a peek through the IMTV hole, but sometimes you can't see the problem using this method.
You may also be able to detect the problem with a fuel pressure check. You can get more info from these threads:

Re: 2 large problems

Yeah they were changed, (cap, rotor, fuel filter), I just did not put it in there. What is the IMTV hole, cause there are zero dealers here that I can get the gasket.
Would I hurt performance if I took the Cat off? We do not have to do emissions checks here and I am thinking that the CAT may be plugged although I have been smelling strong emissions, so that would be the CPI correct?

Re: 2 large problems

As far as the ElCamino, AJT1961 is right on about the fuel pump. The diafram is busted inside of the fuel pump, causing fuel to dump into the block.

Re: 2 large problems

I would immediately suspect the CPI and Nut Kit. I dropped to under 200 Miles per tank when mine went out on my 93.
