New Recall!! 2/2/06
I was recently in my local GM dealer to get my replacement tailgate cables and the guy told me there is another open recall on my truck. '00 Sierra 4x4, the recall is for the damned ABS sensor. I guess they check for signs of premature wear but don't know much more than that. I will post once I have taken the vehicle in for the recall.

The ABS isn't new. It was mentioned last year at some point.

There is a sensor on each side. I got the notice from GM for this problem WELL over 8 months ago. I had it fixed 7 months ago according to my records.

What part of the country do you in ? Also , do you think the problem will come back after time ? Or did they change the sensor ?

Re: New Recall!! 2/2/06
They replaced both sensors on mine. Unless they have some super corrosion protector stuff that won't wash away in salt and slush, the problem is bound to come back.

I live in Pennsylvania. I agree, a couple years of the road salt and winter hell we will be going back for new ones. And yes they replaced both of mine also.

It definately depends on where you live. Since I just received mine a couple days ago (2/14/06), and live in Minnesota, I would assume it depends on how much salt/snow you drive in??

Re: New Recall!! 2/2/06
I dont know what other states but they FINALLY started recalling Wisconsin and obviously Minnesota trucks. I just got my notice today too. Im happy as hell cause I was pissed for a long time cause I almost got in countless accidents and it seemed like every other state had the recall lol.

I received my recall notice several weeks ago.
I was aware of the problem but didnt think it was a safty issue until I pulled into a rest area, braked to slow down, then as I was just about into a parking spot the ABS went off and I hit the curb and bounced over and stoped on the sidewalk.
Onlookers must have thought I was drunk at 10 am.
Thank God no one was walking in front of me!
I needed to share this as I never thought this could happen to me.
I live in Michigan and have 37,000 miles on my 01.
I will try to take a photo of mine and post if they were replaced or cleaned..

Re: New Recall!! 2/2/06
This sensor, will this keep the wheels from going into ABS when there is no need for it? That is the only issue I have with the Silverado's.. hit a small bump when braking and the system kicks on and you can't stop.. Can't tell you how many intersections I have blown for that very reason.

Re: New Recall!! 2/2/06
Yes it may correct that problem but if braking over a bump and the wheel leaves the ground for an instant, the abs thinks the wheel is locked and actuates the system, not below 6 usually.

My 2000 has been doing that for the last year that i've owned it.If my foot is on the brake, and hit a bump,it starts to make this loud grinding noise, and vibration, then doesn't want to stop.I remember getting my notice late summer or fall.Guess I'd better get mine in to the dealer!

Re: New Recall!! 2/2/06
On my 00 silverado, they got so bad that they'd kick in at every stop, bumps or not. Almost got into a couple accidents before I finally pulled the fuse and took it in.
