po 128

I noticed my ses light on so I went to autozone and had them scan it. The trouble code was 128. I looked in my haynes book and it said something about low ambient temp. My temp gauge was staying around 180 degrees instead of the normal 205 or so. Any suggestions. It is a 02 4.3.

Re: po 128

It could possibly be the thermostat is shot and stuck open and the coolant is not staying in the enging long enough to get too hot. Some thermostats are designed that when they fail they will stick open instead of closed like they have in the past. I am not sure if the failsafe type are what they install from factory or not though.
