2000 Taurus Audio Questions!!!

I recently purchased a 2000 Ford Taurus that is in great condition and low mileage, but now I'm stuck with a junky sound system. I have two questions: 1.) Can this type of car get a single Cd player instead of having to have a changer clear in the trunk, and if so where and how does it install? 2.) If I was looking for a nice speaker system under $350 dollars, what would work with this vehicle, and what would your recommend looking into?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2000 Taurus Audio Questions!!!

I don't have a direct answer for either of these, but I have a 99 T and think the sound system is OK - much better than the last car I had.

but let me tell you, I installed a nice sub on that other car, and all shortcomings of the speaks were gone, a sub can make all the difference and avoid changing all the speakers.

I'll look into that thanks. Anyone else have something else they'd like to add?

Re: 2000 Taurus Audio Questions!!!

First off if you have digital climate controls your stuck, if you dont then your'e in luck read on. You can install an aftermarket cd player but not without a little work. The tuner is in the trunk in this car, and the faceplate is just a control panel. They do make aftermarket faceplate kits for aftermarket CD-players. ( you can go to http://www.crutchfield.com for more info) To install you have to run the wires ( included in the kit) from the tuner in the trunk to the new deck. If you're up to that then go at it.

Re: 2000 Taurus Audio Questions!!!

I just purchased a 2000 Taurus wagon, and had the same problem. I also did not want the changer, just a single CD player in place of the Cassette. I went to a junk yard and took a single cd unit out of a 2001. The change is very simple. You will have to also change the heater controls as well (they just switch from your face plate to the new one) plug back in and you are all set. You need a special tool to pop the radios out (under $10 at most auto parts stores) I did the change for $150, AND about 30 minutes.

Re: 2000 Taurus Audio Questions!!!

Here is what I did with my 96 SHO in order to keep the stock apperance:
Buy your standard aftermarket wiring harness and use it to splice into the factory harness without out unplugging your factory setup. Get a hobby box or something that will fit into your center arm console and be able to house your new head unit.
