Woo Hoo....Slowprocess>fully built super duty 4l60e
Just to show how bad the 4l60e sucks, my $2400 built 4l60e just took a crap on me. Made to hold 600 hp my ass!!!!! It didn't quite make it a year, but oh well.....I knew the basis was a POS anyways. Now on to a better tranny. Probably either a TH400 or a 4l80e. TH400 has the price advantage, 4l80e has the overall internal bulk advantage. Both would suit my racing needs, but the damn 4l80e zaps so much hp. The TH400 is so short geared and no overdrive(as if I give a fudge ) We'll see which way to go when I decide to get to work on it.
Just another post on the crap gm puts behind their motors. Looks like the TCI converter might have come to pieces causing the tranny to fudge up. Either way they both SUCK!!!! Oh, well, better here than at the racetrack.

lol, sorry but that is amusing the way you posted it. But a forced upgrade is always a good thing if you can afford it. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to go with.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Get a 6-speed. It will be more fun to drive.

Dont get the 80E, you'll be having the same problem in one year, go with the TH400.

Re: Woo Hoo....Slowprocess>fully built super duty 4l60e
Well the 80E is pretty much a 700R4 with updated electronics and a TCM, but you can find some level 3 tranny's for like $2999 completely rebuilt with the electronics removed for full manual shifting, but your better off going with the TH400, save you time and money. Plus there's still lots of parts available for it and plenty of shops who rebuild those pretty cheap.

Wrong. The only thing the 4l80e and the 700r4 have in common is that they are electronically shifted as appossed to being controled hydraulicaly. The similarities pretty much end there. The 4l80e was designed for extreme heavy duty use with very high torque powerplants. It's an even stronger tranny than the th400.
Look at Parish's truck. He's running a 6.0 l iron block on twin turbos w/ n2o. He's in the low 10's or so and he runs a built 4l80e just fine.
Get the 4l80e, why bother with the 3 spd when you can get a stronger tranny that has an overdrive?

The 700R4 in my old '86 K5 Blazer wasn't electronically shifted, it was all extra vacuumed out. Hell... the most sophisticated part in that truck was the TBI 350.

Re: Woo Hoo....Slowprocess>fully built super duty 4l60e
Jim(Parish) has had great success out of his flp 4l80e. He is running the 408 with one big turbo and a 100 shot. Made 1000 hp on it and ran a 10.08, but now he's going to have to find a rear end that will stay under it(Ford 9" here he comes. ). The flp 4l80e is just so damn high, not to mention the $900 converter I'm also going to have to buy.
Decisions.....decisions.....

Re: Woo Hoo....Slowprocess>fully built super duty 4l60e
i dont know shit about Automatic transmissions (or transmissions in general) but the 4l80 sounds like the better deal.
i get so tired of muscle guys and their TH-400's...they are like "your car doesnt even have the pwoer equal to the power lost in my TH-400.. blah blah blah blah torque torque blah blah torque torque torque"
sometimes i wanna puke

it's cause your car doesn't make the power that my TH400 loses.
