Weld on exhaust tip question

I just bought a SS exhaust tip that I will need to weld on the tail pipe. Do I need to disconnect the battery before I start welding (wire welder) so I don't fry the computer(s)...or is that even an issue. Thanks.

Re: Weld on exhaust tip question

i dont think it will hurt anything, i have welded on several vehicles and never had any issues. if any one out there thinks there could be a problem chime in any time. but i dont think welding is going to do anything to the vehicle as long as the welder is grounded solid near the welding area.

Okay how scary is it that you will be operating a welder and you would ask a question like that. How on earth could welding a tip onto the tailpipe have anything to do with affecting the electronics of your truck..To confirm your suspicions, ummmmmmmm no disconnecting battery not necessary, just wear safety glasses and a long sleeve shirt at least.

What's scary is that you can be a such a smart ass when someone asks an honest question. Since the electronics in the truck are grounded and the exhaust system is part of that ground, I thought perhaps there could be a potential problem when the welders ground is also connected...thanks to those who provided the answer without any cheap shots.
