700 miles and a transmission issue..

With just 700 miles on my 06 Silverado, Its going in the shop tommorrrow for a transmission issue. The problem is that it slams into 2nd gear when I am in traffic under light throttle. Under normal conditions, it shifts great. Anyone else had this problem? I wonder how serious it is? Thanks, Cliff

Re: 700 miles and a transmission issue..

I also, had this problem back when I bought my truck.......I tried everything to get fix it......I went to the stealership like 100 times, but got no where......then I bought a b&m trans cooler, and 14 litres of royal purple, and did a transmission flush.....I also added a corvette servo.....and after about 1 week the problem disappeared.......looks like the quicker shifts, and the lower transmission temps, solved the problem........dunno.....I can tell you the stealership ain't gonna do you no good, and your just wasting your time.....but give it a try, you might be luckier then me.....good luck.....

Is it the Allison transmission?

Re: 700 miles and a transmission issue..

Well, The service advisor called me and told me my truck is ready. I'll pick it up tonight. He said there were some software updates for my complaint and that is should shift smoother in all gears now and when putting the truck in drive or reverse. I'll post tommorrow and let you know if it is fixed. Mine is not the Allison transmission. Cliff

Re: 700 miles and a transmission issue..

UPDATE: So far, the software update is working. My truck shifted flawlessly this morning in traffic. In fact, it shifts so smooth that I cant even feel it. The latest software update is also to correct the harsh shift into reverse in the mornings (the clunk). Mine had it also but, I forgot to mention it to the dealer. My drivers seat still pops. I guess 1 out of 2 aint bad. Its something in the backrest in the lumbar region. I'll tackle it myself...

She is shifting flawlessly. Evidently, there is a fix for this problem now. Just find a "good" dealership to do it.

Good deal glad to hear it. I never have taken my 03 in to get the updates. Mine sometimes wants to start out in second after coming to a stop.

Any idea what the update # was ?

Need to see if this applies to the 2001 w/4.8L.

I don't get the reverse clunk (as far as I can remember) but definitely get the harsh 1-2 shift.

Oddly enough, when I took it to the dealership @ 30K and got the tranny service done, it wasn't as harsh. It returned after a couple of months.

Re: 700 miles and a transmission issue..

I do not know which # the updates were but, I was told that there have been 15 software updates for this transmission valve body. I dont know if that is true or not. I work for Mercedes benz and we have the same issues. 90% of the time it is a software issue. The trick is finding a good trans tech that can look at the accual values and fill times to determine which updates are needed.
