Tocoma heater blower intermittant

If left out in freezing (<32 degs) weather my 00' Tocoma's heater blower will not work until the inside cab temperature warms up. After about 20 minutes of driving to work the heat in the cab will warm up and then the blower motor will just start blasting away. This can make for some difficult driving sometimes when the windshield and side windows ice up. I figure its probable some kind of loose connecton, but has anybody else experienced this. And if so what was the fix?

Re: Tocoma heater blower intermittant

The easiest check would be to see if the heater relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood is working when the blower switch is turned on. You can feel and probably here the relay when the blower is turned on. Do it with a cold engine on a cold morning, you will need an assistant to operate the the blower switch. If the relay is working as it should your next check should probably be the switch, it will also need to be checked in the cold. There is a shop manual for a 2003 at;

It should be similar to your trucks heater system. Volume II page AC 93 has a check procedure for checking the switch. If the switch is good the other possible sources for the problem would be connectors. I suppose the speed control resistor could be bad but sine it works after the cab warms up it's probably OK. Look for the heater control diagram in the air conditioner section of the wiring diagrams. Sorry I cannot say exactly what the problem is but hope this information will help.
