speedometer to fast

When the car is going 50 the speedometer is showing 85. It is a 92 lumina sedan.I know it has a sensor on the right axel housing , but is the trouble in the sensor or the pcm.?

Re: speedometer to fast

have you changed the transmission or guage cluster prior to the speedo reading way off?

Re: speedometer to fast

No I have not changed anything, also the cruise does not work. The hand moves smooth but shows to fast . Can the sensor be dirty and getting the wrong signal?

Re: speedometer to fast

I had this problem when I got the car. It has the right size tires ,so what is going on? It has the sensor with 4 bolts instead of the one bolt hold down type. I checked the wiring .it seem ok. the speedometer goes back to 0 when I stop. Works smooth does not jerk or anything.

Re: speedometer to fast

I would pull the cluster and see if the sticker on the back matches the vin on the car. It sounds like the cluster was swapped with one from a different year and it's calibrated differently.
