Question 04 Sedan Speakers

Went to Bestbuy today, used their computer to figure out what size speakers I could use, even had help from an employee and the computer said front and back 6.5"...Is this correct??? I bought them thinking it was correct, but after some research online am beginning to think these won't work... Do I need to return them?

Unhappy Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

Update: Bestbuy's website also says 6.5" for front and back...and so does CarToys' website...

On that same note however, Crutchfield's website says 4" in the front...

Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

Fronts are 5" (not 5 1/2"). The rears are 6 3/4" (oversize 6 1/2"). I did fit 5 1/4" in the front by modifying the housing. The rears you can make a plate for 6 1/2"(or smaller). Be careful when you take the tops off the holddown pionts in the rear deck, they break easy. Also, depth is a problem in the front. I used a pair of MB Quart discus 5 1/4" and when you roll the window all the way down, you can hear the glass totch the back of the magnet.

Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

Ok, so I take it Bestbuy and Cartoys are definitely wrong then about 6.5" in the front...

My friend is supposed to be coming over tomorrow to install all the stuff in my car so I guess we'll have to go to Bestbuy and tell them their computer is wrong...

Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

Yea, I went to Best Buy (aka Worst Try) and they told me the same thing before I removed my door panels and found out they were wrong. The guy didn't even know what an Aveo was. The rears are a common size for GM and VW.

Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

The Aveo Sedan has 4" up front and 6 1/2" or 6 3/4" in the rear. You can put bigger speakers on the front doors, but you will need to do some modifications to the door or the speaker mount to get the window to go all the way down. I have replaced all 4 speakers. It sucks that the fronts are only 4". I might see what I can do to fit 5" or 6" speakers up front.

Re: 04 Sedan Speakers

The front doors will take a 6.5" as long as it's a shallow mount, UNDER 2" depth (and yes, every fraction of an inch DOES count so don't think you can get away with it). You need to buy a 1" speaker spacer ring as well; your speaker set should come with at least a metal mount ring -- use it, it bumps up the space height by a tenth or so. The speaker I had (infinity) also came with a plastic riser ring that bumped up the height another tenth or so. Have a drill handy to make new screw holes (you do NOT need to cut the sheetmetal for the speaker center as the stock hole is already big enough). And no, you can't use a 1.5" spacer to fit a deeper speaker mount because the door panel surely can't handle that inside its stock grill -- Well I guess you could tear apart your door panel but it's not worth it. Just get shallow mounts. Anyways, I did this with Infinity Reference 6012si's in case you want to reference its mount specs.
