Hello all,

This is kind of a horror story. 1997 tahoe...blown tranny at 78,000 and 98,000 and today at 120,000. So in short, this (if I choose not to drive this thing off a cliff) will be my 4th transmission in almost exactly 120,000 miles.

I DO NOT tow, do much off road driving, or have a heavy foot......I am completely dumbfounded at this vehicle's talent for destroying transmissisions.

I am in contact with GM....does anyone have any advice on what I can expect them to offer to do about this? I actually have a call "scheduled" to talk with a "Customer Relationship Manager", but I don't know what, if anything, they can do. All previous repair were done by pros not shadetree mechanics and I have all the paperwork.

Does anyone ahve experience with this sort of matter?

what has the last 4 failures been cuased by? common examples are rear planet bearing failure (grinding noise) , Drive shell stripping or breaking ( no reverse or 2nd/4th) TCC slip code & overheat (valve body wearing out). Bad computer wiring ( burned clutches/band do to low line pressure) < <<<< mainly 96 model year with RED connetors on the computer.

I am not as transmission-smart as I ought to be. Let me describe what happened.

The first time (78,000) I was backing up my driveway....something "gave" and it sounded as though there was a batch of popcorn going off inside the transmission. No gears were functional.

The second time (98,000), I was on the highway (not even speeding)...the check engine light came on and as I was pulling off the highway something "gave" and again there was horrible grinding noise. No gears would function. This one was fun since I was "in-the-middle-of-nowhere" Kentucky at 12:30 a.m. on a Sunday night with my entire family in the car.

This time (120,000) I went to back down my driveway and I had no reverse and a spinning noise. The other gears seem functional for now, but I haven't driven it. Got it towed to the mechanic and the service tech said the tranny was "done." I trust this shop, been working with them for over 10 years.

I don't know if this makes any sense.

It sound like this time your drive shell broke. Very common issue GM now has a hardened version out. Make sure they get the updated ACdelco shell, A new captured bearing in the rear planet and a transgo shift to to help elimate the TCC slip do to a worn out valve body
