Coolant types

Corolla 1993,1.3, 4E-FE

Dear Users,

I have decided to flush my engine coolant system, I know the process
but I have ly bought the Red coolant (5 year protection).

But my car uses the green stuff, If I flush the system and put the red stuff
in, will it be ok??.

During the flush process, can air get trapped in the system, if so how do I remove the pesky bubbles

I appreciate your feedback

Re: Coolant types

Just do a complete flush. Some stuff does not mix good with other stuff.
On air traped in system sometimes you can open it up at the highest place in the cooling system like where a hose or pipe is and bleed out air.

Re: Coolant types

I have done basically the same thing. I drained the old stuff and flushed it twice. Then I used the new Prestone "Any Color" coolant. The one you can mix with either green or red/orange coolant without fear of contamination.

The any color type coolant is also a 5 year/100,000 mile coolant. Been driving my car with it for a while with no problems.

I recommend flushing at least twice because some of the old, broken down coolant gets trapped in the heater core and the second flush dilutes/removes it enough so it isn't a problem.

I flushed it with distilled water I bought for 60 cents a gallon at Walmart. The water at my home is really hard and I didn't want that crud in my engine block. Ten gallons was only six bucks and it lasts for a 100,000 miles.

Re: Coolant types

to get rid of the bubbles just filll the radiator till full...then you turn on the enging with the radiator cap still off...it will start to go down...put more water or coolant in and wait till it goes down again...repeat process until it overfills and doesnt want to go down anymore...shouldnt take any more than 5 minutes
