replacing the starter on 97 rodeo 3.2L v6 manual? hard?

How tough a job is replacing the starter? My bro-in law told me its a sinch, but I've read some posts about 94's and their experiences and it seems like I'd have to take the exhaust off and a bunch of other stuff.

can ya help me out? thanks and moderator, no I don't work @ Chiron, its the name of my band. www.myspace.com/chironisdamusic whats up!

4X2 or 4X4? I have the 4X2 and it was very easy. Familiarize yourself with the alignment dowels on the mounting bracket.

I got the 4x4. And just to let everyone know, I'm such a beginner at this car repair thing, it ain't even funny. I have no idea what you're talking about in that post.

I'm willing to learn, but I live in an apartment and have limited resources when it comes to repairing space and tools. what should I do. I think the first thing I will do is clean the battery connections... what else?

They are just 2 round bushings that help you line up the bracket with the transmission housing when you put it back on. The NAPA remanufactured starter I bought didn't come with them, so I had to wiggle them out of the old starter bracket. They just help line everything back up so that the starter gear engages the flywheel properly (no grinding or binding).

I think you are looking at moving some of the exhaust components. Have you found the starter yet?

just take it slow. look at the new part, look at the old part on the truck. envision the procedures to removing the old one. then do it. its just a swap. nothings going to jump out at you. it is easy. put the new part on in reverse of how you took the old one off.

disconnect the battery ground cable first, though.
