Dim odometer displaygoosecoid 01-25-2006, 10:26 AM I have an '02 Explorer and recently have noticed that the digital odometer display has gotten really dim. It is barely noticeable during the daylight hours, especially if the headlights happens to be on too. Flipping the dimmer switch back and forth does nothing to improve the problem. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Is it a cheap fix? Will the problem get progressively worse until one day I start the car and the display is totally blank? Thanks for any advice. B33p3r 01-28-2006, 08:41 PM I used to have a caprice that did the same thing. The odometer was a seperate board that sat on the main dash board. It was electrically connected by pins that were bent in such a way, that they should "spring" against the contacts. I had to remove the odometer and bend the pins slightly to give them more spring. dkhender 05-11-2006, 12:04 PM I also have an 02 Explorer with exact same problem, except now it is going out completely. Anyone know how to remove the odometer? I haven't found any good links showing/telling me how to do it. bumpinkicker04 05-12-2006, 09:49 PM I also have an 02 Explorer with exact same problem, except now it is going out completely. BuckeyeXLT07-07-2005, 10:08 AM Mine did the same thing, cracked solder joint at the vacuum display circuit. Easy to repair, and has never gone dim since. -Dom found this post on another forum. It's a very common problem in these vehicles. Here are a couple of articles about the dim odometer problem that should be helpful. http://www.squidoo.com/ford-odometer-repair http://www.odometer-repair.com '97ventureowner 02-05-2009, 01:40 AM Please check the date of the last post in the thread and do not respond if that date is longer than 3 months from the current date.
