I beleive the u-joints on my car are bad, I was told that inorder to replace the u-joints the drive shaft will need to be replaced. They said that the u-joints are not replaceable seperate from the the shaft is this true?

True, but you can replace the driveshaft with one that would not require it to be replaced completely next time. That is to say, you can replace just the U-joint on the replacement drive shaft.
