Should I change transmission fluid/filter at 110,000 miles
I have a 2000 Tahoe 4wd with 110,000 miles. I was planning on changing the transmission fluid and filter/gasket as well as the transfer case fluid. As far as I know, the fluid and filter have never been changed. I was told that it may not be a good idea to change the transmission fluid/filter at this milage due to the fact that it may affect the driving performance.
Should I or should I NOT change the transmission fluid/filter/gasket and the transfer case fluid?
Thanks

The transfercase will be ok to change, but the tranny, I think that I would just take it to a rebuild shop and have them pull it down. If it in fact has not been changed in that amount of time, the clutches are probablly coated with grime and when you put fresh fluid in there it may or may not clean the grime off of the clutches. There for you have 2 options: 1. service it (have a shop flush it) and see what the out come is. 2. take it to a tranny shop and see what they recommend. Hope this helps.

Just thought of something else, if you try to service the tranny, I would find someone that sales Lubegard in the red bottle and use that. 1 ounce per quart in the system. For more info goto www.lubegard.com

Re: Should I change transmission fluid/filter at 110,000 miles
110,000 is like changing the oil every 12-15k. tranny services should be done every 30k. filter changes are usually recommended every 11-15k but i dont think thats a big problem if you keep the fluid flushes at the 30k interval along with the filter. you can try flushing it and using mercon V/ atf+4/5 for a higher friction fluid.

and i can tell you that is absolutely absurd. its like the 5/150,000 mile coolant flush interval. they dont care because its out of warranty well before 100k. take care of it the right way and theres a good chance you wont have nearly as much trouble as if you went by their guidelines.

Re: Should I change transmission fluid/filter at 110,000 miles
I agree with Rahx, I would change every 30,000 miles under normal operating conditions, if you 4-wheel, pull or haul, I would do it every 12,000-15,000 miles, or switch to royal purple max atf. For more info on max atf go to www.royalpurple.com
