firewall hole for amp wiring?bump909 08-06-2001, 01:27 PM i'm installing an amp for my sub in the g20 and i can't seem to find a hole in the firewall where i can run the power wire from the battery to the trunk. anyone with a p10 know the answer? Xeon 08-06-2001, 01:39 PM id be very interested to know also...otherwise i may be taking a trip to boomer's later in the week i_rebel 08-06-2001, 01:56 PM Stand infront of your car, and picture an imaginary line dividing your engine bay in half from the firewall to the radiator . . . What you're looking for will be on the right side of the firewall It should be in the area shown within the red circle: Mine had a thick rubber stopper covering the hole. endfro 08-06-2001, 02:04 PM You can do one of two things. When you are inside the car, way up inside the steering column is a small hole. Well, it fit my 4 gage wire, so its not all that small. But up there you can push it through. The hole comes right out where i_rebel pointed out. One other place I have seen (I used this on my old G20) is right above the accelerator pedal. Some people dont like to drill into their firewalls, but it doesnt bother me. I just took the drill, went right above the pedal, moved left about 2". I held my breath and slammed it through. That was a really good spot, but I feel that the hole thats already there is a tiny bit safer. =] MauiBlueGRide 08-06-2001, 05:21 PM If you can reach in there, I've always taken a sharp nail punch and beat it a few times, then you can feel for the dimple on the other side and make sure nothings in the way. Best to use a grommet and some silly cone to get it nice and water/air tight. Good luck and don't be afraid to drill :-P Chris PS if you do find a rubber grommet here is the old trick I learned, get a radio antenna (old sold non power one) Grind one end really sharp and tape the other end like a handle. Attach the wire to to it with good electrical tape, wrap it serveral times TIGHT and then lube it with some KY Jelly (dont laugh I still have some in my tool box hehehe) and viola you poke it right through. But remember always wear protection... I mean eye protection... Chris Can't ever keep a straight face when telling people to put ky jelly on their rod and shove it in the hole..... bump909 08-06-2001, 05:24 PM sweet, thanks guys.. i appreciate it. i'll let you know how it works out. kris 08-06-2001, 05:36 PM I told you how mine was done. But I didnt do it myself, I paid someone :p But I say, just move the damn battery :D redvalkrie 08-07-2001, 12:38 PM :D Hahaha Had me Crackin-up Chris! it really works I have used that technique a couple of time it saved my skin from cut's. Nothing worse to an installer than cuts on your fingers from peoples vehicles.:bloated: Well if you do decide to cut maybe get one of those adapters that go on your drill bit so it won't go in to deep & hit some wiring always becarefull take plenty of precations.:bloated: wallys99 08-17-2001, 04:16 PM How about on a P11? I looked for the hole on my 99 and couldnt find it. Maybe im missing it but can anyone confirm that there is one? thanks! bump909 08-22-2001, 05:38 PM Originally posted by i_rebel Stand infront of your car, and picture an imaginary line dividing your engine bay in half from the firewall to the radiator . . . You can also run it through the fender on the drivers side. Then go through where the wire harness is. I used that route to relocate my battery to the trunk. Better yet...while you're at it running wire to the back, why not relocate the battery to the trunk!!! :) http://home.talkcity.com/gasolinealley/lawrenan/Batteryrelo.htm The above is a good guide, I did not write it though, but whoever did, good job!
