1992 Cutlass Supreme S
3.1L auto trans

I left my car with my friend for a week while I was out of town.

Now the car won't get up to third gear. Everything else seems to be working fine.

I've been told it might be a vaccum hose or a solenoid somewhere.

I put some Lucas stuff into it but so far nothing has happened. I don't know how long it takes for that stuff to work.

Has anyone had this problem before or have any ideas on what to do?

Where is this vaccum line I've heard about?

This is my last ditch effort before I have to take it in somewhere.

Have you checked the fluid level?
You might be able to get it to shift by moving the shift lever from low to drive manually while moving.

That is just so obvious I didn't think about mentioning it.. nothing works to get it into gear, tried it..

i put lucas transmission treatment in , first day nothing, the next day it sat without moving at all...

and today it works

20 miles after adding lucas my car shifts into third!! yay now i can go above 40 mph

I would still bet it was the electric solenoid valves in the tranny, yeah thatit worked agin though.
