what is the diference between the 2 if they share the same 2.5 motor? I figure the turbo is bigger and different injectors but is that all? If so then I could buy a WRX and turn it into an STI cheaper then buying one right? Thanks

I know this is a stupid question :iceslolan but I really don't know what the differences are. I know there are more than that but I can't find it. Please someone tell me because I am thinking of getting one and I can't make up my mind. Also, is it better than the Evo VIII, and if so how? Thanks for the info.

1. Search feature.
2. http://www.subaru.com they list the differences on their website
3. If that doesn't explain it well enough http://www.cars101.com

Which is better between the Evo and STI is all a matter of personal preference, they both excel in different arenas.
Oh, other than the Impreza totally owns the Evo in WRC competition :evillol:

well really, the WRX doesnt have a 2.5L motor. which is basically why the STi out performs all of the other STi's that existed. this is the first 2.5L STi motor that Subaru made. not only because of the displacement, but the turbo, and the 6 speed tranny, so yeah, the WRX just has a lower displacement, 5 speed tranny, and a weaker turbo, so yeah, hope that answers your questions.

Ummm....no, the WRX DOES have a 2.5l engine, you didn't answer any question, you just displayed a lack of knowledge.

now wouldnt that depend on the year WRX motor? maybe there is a slight lack of knowledge from me and lets say NO they dont share the same 2.5L motor with some adjustments they are 2 different motors with a variety of differences

I just don't get it.....

People need to educate themselves a bit more before posting things.

The 02-05 WRX has 2.0L Turbo Flat 4
The 04-06 STi has 2.5L Turbo Flat 4
The 06 WRX has a displacement increase to 2.5L Flat 4

YukiHime is correct.

This whole thread has been about the 2006 models though, or did I miss something?

Well, just reading the original post, it sounds to me like he's considering buying a NEW WRX/STI, so I assume 06. It sounds to me like (HE THINKS THAT)the only things that are different between WRX and STI are their engines.....

I don't know where to start with that.....
I agree with Ray, he just needs to read the SUBARU site and educate himself about all the differences that go well beyond just the engine, and NO, it would be much more expensive to convert a WRX into an STI.

Diff motors same displacements. Sti has the original 2.5L motor and the new 06 WRX has the motor from the Subaru Legacy GT.
