Loud Roaring in front end

My 98 Blazer has a loud roaring sound in the front end while driving. It becomes annoying after a ride of some distance. It also has quite a bit of play in the steering wheel. Tire replaclement has not helped. Don't know which way to turn.

. The sound is like that of tires with very thick threads. It resonates throughout the passenger compartment. Is there a problem with the suspension?

Re: Loud Roaring in front end

There are several possible causes, one of the most common is the wheel bearings. Is the sound accompanied by a vibration? Does it get worse while turning in one direction and seem to get better while turning the other? Is it in sync with the speed of the vehicle? Does it seeming to be more noticible at speeds between 25 - 45?

As for the steering, check out this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=503647

and also search for a thread called "facts about steering slop" (something similar to that)

Re: blazee

Hi all,

Just found this board, while searching for this same problem/solution.

This is exactly the problem with my '04 2WD blazer. It doesn't matter the speed. The car sounds like I've got huge mud grip tires on it, but it has plain, street tires. I notices yesterday, that the noise stops completely if I turn right or if a bounce (like going over a bridge on the highway) takes some weight off the wheels.

tia,

Bog

Re: Loud Roaring in front end

Sounds like your passenger side bearing is done.....Replace the hub/bearing assembly..........

Re: Loud Roaring in front end

lol, Rex... That may be true, but only if the engine somehow got tougher over the past year.

Thanks, paxfam1. Any idea how much parts would be for that?

Re: Loud Roaring in front end

Front wheel bearings, and these are also well known for ball joints, tie rods, pitman arms, etc. Basically the entire steering-chassis connecting parts. I have replaced many. But your roaring is wheel bearings!!

Re: Loud Roaring in front end

As for the price, Autozone has them for $120.99. Its a pretty easy install, but be sure that you grab that axle socket if you dont have access to one.

Post your results!
