Hello everyone!!!

I have a 2001 Neon with about 75,000 miles. My problem is this: Everytime I turn on the foglights, nothing turns on. I have the foglight switch and the foglights on my car. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Thanks

I have already replaced the lightbulbs, but nothing worked. What's interesting is that when I turn on the foglights, the indicator lamp inside the car doesn't turn on. Is there something wrong with the fuse? Or could it be the wiring?

Note that all cars with fog lamps are required by law to turn off when the high beams are turned on. This means that there has to be some sort of relay / Interlock circuit that turns off the Fog lamps when the high beams come on.

I can't remember what happens if you try to turn on the fog lamps in my 98 sport, and the highbeams are on. I think that the indicator lamp stays off. I know that the indicator does go off when I switch to high beams. I beleive it comes back on when I turn back to low beam. You could have a problem with this interlock circuit, where it thinks your Highbeams are always on.

There is a federal law that requires that any white colored "Driving Light" be extinguished if the High beams are on. I read that in a Chrysler manual I have. If yours come on, then they might have been improperly installed as an aftermarket or dealer add on, or perhaps your lamps are yellow, and the requirement does not apply.

Simular laws exist when you have an off road truck with a light bar on top. You cannot drive such a vehical on the road, without the cloth covers on the lights. Those covers are not there for show. I know someone who got a ticket for it.

I do know that my 98 sport definitly does turn off the low mounted white driving lights when I swithc to high beams. I discovered this when I went to kick my right driving lamp on a really foggy night, and noticed both were off. I reached inside to turn the high beams off, and the Left light came back on.

The real test would be to park in front of a store front, with plate glass. That way, you would be able to see the driving lights go out with the high beams in the reflection.

There is a lot of confusion between "foglights" and "driving lights". I call the White lights "driving Lights" and yellow colored ones "Fog Lights". I dodn't assume that everyone uses the same terminology. I know there is a law about "Driving lights" that are white but I don't know if the same law applies to yellow colored lights.

In any case, the OEM lights that came with the sport package in my 98 are white, and they definitly turn off when you turn on the high beams. I double checked, and the indicator lamp that is part of the switch also goes out when the high beams are on. It is mentioned somewhere in the owners manual. (and who ever reads thier Owners Manual?)

It is quite possible that kingmark86 has factory lights, and did not know that having the high beams on might have an effect on the fog / driving lights.
