Radio Code

Good day all, this is my first post on this forum. Thanks to all who will answer.

I own a 1995 540i and I needed a clutch job done. Since the car spent the Christmas holiday in the shop, my mechanic disconected the battery. The radio is now asking me for a code. I entered the code but at the end of the 5 digit series, it beeped and is asking me for the code again. Any suggestion on how to input the code?

Thanks again,

Andre

Hello, please confirm make and model of car - and make and model of car radio, is the code correct for your radio? if unsure what is the serial number.

I may be able to assist you.

Andre,

First, be certain you have the correct code. You'll be able to tell if your radio code is correct if it beeps on the last (5th) digit you input ... oh, you said that, didn't you?

The system will allow 3 attempts at correct input (in theory), then will lock you out (occasionally, they don't "play well with others" and refuse to even allow you the three tries).

In the event of lockout like you're experiencing, turn the key to the "On" position (but not "Start"). Turn the radio on so it displays CODE and let it sit that way for minimum 30 minutes, maybe a little longer to be sure. Then, while the key and radio are still on, re-enter the correct code and you should be good to go. If this fails, which it probably won't, you'll need to pull the radio and take it in for repair. If that's the case, go buy a good quality aftermarket unit ... they're better anyway!

AndreHi: I had a similiar problem recently. I was traveling and needed exhaust repairs in New Mexico. I called a dealer in Alburquerque and they told me to "just come on in, we'll fix in for you at no charge.:
AND THEY DID. They pulled the radio, retreived a code on the rear of the radio, put it in a computor and printed all the appliable codes out. They reset the radio and I was on my way.
Hope this helps.
