I am a big 1/43rd modeller too, so give me a sec and I will post some pics of the cages in my cars...

I would say ditch the plastic idea, it isn't pliable enough.
What you want is soft metal, even the brass piping would do, as you need to bend so much of it!
Buy some good cutters and you are away.

That's exactly what I am doing, quite literaly, I'm doing this right now using brass wire. And this will not be a very "thorough" rollcage, for the car is not competizione, it is evoluzione.

I'm using epoxy glue for this, but I'm beginning to wonder if that is a good idea. How does Loctite super attack work? And which to choose - liquid or gel?

I don't think epoxy really sets, it always stays tacky! It will be fine if it is sprayed over, so go for it!

Everythin on my model is quite stock, the only difference are the racing decals (originally).

As for pictures, I have not been able to find any, so I use my imagination and improvise :)

Which colour should I paint it? Black? White? Grey (like rubber)? Maybe red?

Well, I thought about it and decided to go for white - black won't be as visible through the tiny 43 windows, and red - well, the car is red... But I have another hour to think before the epoxy settles :)

Actually, a lot of cars are silver inside, that might look good?

I still painted it white.Looks very nice. Now the long wait... :(

Actually, I wasn't even considering white until I started writing the post and I mentioned it just as opposition to black. But then it got me thinking, well, you know... :)

Here are two more questions:

1) What do you meake seatbelts of?

2) Should I add a rear wing (make it from scratch)?

Oh, and one more: how do you make chrome? I went to the hobby shop and the guy sold me this paint (Chrome Silver by Humbrol), and it turned out to be "exactly" the same as a Revell paint I have, which was, IIRC, "alluminium metallic". A big ARGH to him! So what do you use? I heard of gluing alu foil, but that's not the was I wasnt to go on a 43 scale model.

P.S. This question has nothing to do with the 348 I'm working on :)

You really need to get your hands on a set of aftermarket seatbelts, which are made by various companies. I use www.grandprixmodels.com but you would need someone Stateside (though GPM will ship to the States!)
Anything else won't look very good!

'Bare Metal Foil' (A product!) for a self adhesive chrome (It is like a sticky baking foil, but ultra thin!)

Or Plasti-Kote Brilliant Mettalic Silver spray paint. Nothing else will achieve the same sffect as that paint, trust me! It is superb!!!

Yes, Bare Metal Foil gets my vote! It's pretty easy to use. I also comes in different colors like gold and black. I picked up some in black to use for the trim around windows and undercarriages.

The chrome foil also works really great as the reflector behind taillights/turn signals. :D

This is the rollcage I made for my renault Clio in 1/43rd.

That's a good job. It's pretty much what I built, only I drilled holes in the interior and the cage goes through them... I will try to take pictures one day, but I don't have a didgital camera :(
