('93 astro ext 210k) I have a fairly large leak coming form the transmission and it has been difficult to identify the exact location. I figured it was just the pan so I bought a gasket and filter and rear seal since it really needed it anyway. I found a few bolts loose so I assumed I found the problem. I got it all back together and did not see any leaks last night. When I got up this morning there was a large puddle. I put in 5 qts (10 pints) last night per the manual, but I am not sure if that takes into account the torque converter. Is it possible that I overfilled and it is just bleeding out? I am going to crawl under again tonight to see. Any other common places it may be leaking?

Also, I want to change the motor mount. I found the mount at autozone, but they did not have four other bushings that are part o fthe assembly. They are four round bushings mounted to the same bracket that the mount is fastened to. Where can I buy these other than the dealer???

I am planning on changing the upper control arm bushings and idler arms next weeked. Any suggestions on special tools? I saw a idler arm puller in the store I think I will buy. Not to sure about the upper control bushings. Any websites available with pictures?? I have the traditional Chiltons, but not typically very helpful.

Thanks ahead!

Transmission fluid needs to be checked while the vehicle is on a level surface, engine idling at operating temperature, in park, or neutral. Do not overfill or it WILL leak and make a mess. The torque converter is not drained at all during a filter/fluid change. You may want to check the speed sensor "O" ring, in the side of the transmission, common problem for leaks.

Idler arms are a straight forward replacement. The only "special" tool is a pickle fork needed to separate the joints from the center link.

As far as the motor mount bushings, sorry, can't help you there.

The motor mounts aren't too big a deal.
A block of wood, like a piece of 2x6 and the scissor jack that came with your van are the only special tools you need. Put the 2x6 under the oil pan and put a little bit of lift on the engine to take the weight off the mounts. Get some locktite for the bolts when reinstalling.

Is Second the opinion on Chilton's manuals, I like my Haynes manual much better.

Also, for the trans leak, check the vent tube on top of the transmission. If the fluid level is over filled, trans fluid will vent out the top.

Ok. Looks like I found the leak. There is some kind of solenoid on the passenger side of the transmission. The fluid is pouring out of it and I can wiggle it all around. I am going to try to pull it out and see if I can just replace an o-ring as was suggested. Unfortunately looks as though I have to pull off the pan again. I priced it at the dealer at $160, rockauto $100, and Oreily $95 so I think I want to see if there is a cheap alternative to get it to stop leaking. I'll give a update when I'm finished.

Ok. The leak was just coming from a wiring harness connector that fits through the wall of the transmission seal. Only cost about $0.59 for the o-ring but several hours to remove the pan and a few components to get to it. I made a web page and put a bunch of pictures if anyone is interested.
