Tranny problems need help!

What would cause a delay when putting the car into gear? I mean it takes maybe 10 to 30 secs until im able to take off. The tranny only has 40k on it, and it doesnt slip or give me any problems whatsoever when driving it. Another question is when you put your car in drive, what happens inside the tranny itself to make it engage? I hope its something simple becasue i dont have money to sink into a rebuild.

Re: Tranny problems need help!

this an automatic I take ? this on your 95GA? I'd start with checking the fluid level. It could be low causing the slipage. Hopfully thats it! But if the fluid level is correct, you may want to try a filter & fluid change.

I just changed the fluid and filter, it seems to do it more in the cold, when its warmed up i never have the problem, and yes its for the GA. BTW when i changed the filter, on the right side there were 2 very thin metal plates that cover some kind of peep hole, why its there i have no idea, but would that cause any problems if it wasnt put on right? im pretty sure i put the bottom plate on right, really it could only go on one way but just wondering what the plates do?

Re: Tranny problems need help!

hey chasmanz28 , sorry I didnt get back with ya sooner. When its cold, really cold your trans might slip alittle bit at first. I think thats normal , just because the fluids thick when clod and doesnt flow well.
As for those metal parts/plates, I'm not certain what that would be right off hand. But if the slip gets worse or more problems occure, you probley should take it to a trans shop and hav it diag properly.

yeah i did this morning found out the metal shim was put on backwards, it has to block that peep hole to prevent fluid to enter the pan, oh well at least i tried but ended up costing me
