Re: Heater Stop Working

If you have a manual control HVAV it could be the blower motor resistor. If you have the auto digital climate control the blower motor control module. Also, the blower motor itself may be bad now.

Re: Heater Stop Working

Could be the relay also, since you've now lost high. If the motor was squealing prior to quitting, the motor is drawing too many amps and took the other parts with it.

The high speed blower relay is located on the bottom of the blower motor resistor (BMR) and a sealed unit as part of the component, so replacement of the BMR may resolve the issue. The same is applicable to a GP with auto digital climate control.......the hi-speed position 5 relay is part of the blower motor control module (BMCM).

Contrary to popular and misplaced belief the hi-speed relay and the BMR/BMCM are not separate items in a '97 - '03 Grand Prix. Just for everyones info so there is no confusion.

The blower motor can be bench tested by applying 12v to the input pin.

Re: Heater Stop Working

I never actually tried looking up a relay, so I was going on an assumption. Thanks for the clarification Bob, much appreciated. I should know better than to assume.

No, it is not a problem Rich. I just wanted to clarify and let everyone know of my recent findings since we get a lot of these type problems. I figured now was a good time since the issue came up.

I have searched high and low for the illusive blower motor hi-speed relay and I could not find it in my GTP, Regal LS, Regal GS or a friend's 01 GT.

I believe that most if not all of us were under the assumption it was a separate relay. It is not in any of the instrument fuse boxes, engine compartment or behind the glovebox or driver's side of the dash.

I found out that it is actually incorporated in the blower motor resistor or blower motor control module. If you pull a blower motor resistor out of stock on the bottom of the plastic part where the electrical connector is you will see a square object. That is the blower hi-speed relay. The blower motor control module is similar and the relay is part of the circuit board in that module.

It is about time we cleared that up because in the end it will really help people that need it and help us give proper assistance.

Re: Heater Stop Working

Thanks again for the clarification. I had attempted to no avail to find the same elusive separate relay. I'm glad to now know it doesn't exist. I was going to look again after I got back from snipe hunting.
