04' Jetta TDI, stalling when cold???

OK, this car has been a good one so far, no service issues. Has just over 50K and regular oil and filter by me. Just started having an issue with the thing starting and then stalling when it is cold. It also may be a situation where my driveway is a small incline. The stall happens in the same place every time. Back out of the driveway, which is an incline, up the road to the stop sign, which is about 50 yards and a small incline and then when truning right onto the main street it stalls just after stepping on the gas. It has only happened one other place and that was at work, when leaving and truning up a small incline it happened again...and was also cold. I don't know if the cold or the incline has anything to do with it but it has been noticed. It seems to be fine when warm. I can pull out of the driveway any other time and it is fine. It has happened the last three mornings in a row. I'm looking for do it yourself solutions, with detail. I considered trying to drain the fuel filter but I'm not sure exactly on the procedure. I know were the filter is and the drain on the bottom...but how much? do I need to refill with diesel from the top? How about intake? Someone told me about a EGR Valve switch that might need reset, but I couldn't find it. Most recent service was oil and filter about 1500 miles ago, that's about it. 1.9L TDI VW Jetta, automatic.

sounds like your fuel filter is clogged, whens the last time you had it replaced. its supposed to be replaced every 20k miles.

also the egr valve can stick from carbon buildup from poor fuel

Yeah, that was it! I actually did this the other day to try to eliminate that as the culprit and it has not happened since.

Thanks

Aaron
