318i engine swapJinX 06-10-2002, 02:56 PM Has anybody heard of swapping a 2.5 or 2.8 6cyl into a 318? I am hopefully going to be buying a BMW soon, and want a 5 speed. It is really hard to find the 325i (4 doors) with a 5 speed, at least on Ebay and other sites. I am also wondering how much a complete engine setup would cost for the 2.5, and if the tranny would match up at all. Any ideas? -JinX williamlyons 06-10-2002, 04:34 PM In theory it is possible to do it because the 3 series is developed for 4 and 6 inline engines. So on the 318 there is the right space to fit the 6 cylinder engine, but the problem is the cost that may be very high, and the law. It depends on what is your country. However in europe there is a factory that puts even the V8 of the M5 in the 3 series! Another problem after the swapping is that you have to put a more powerful braking system on the 318. Bye:rolleyes: 3.5litermoose 06-11-2002, 12:05 AM what year car are you looking to do the engine swap in? Obviously you can put a 6 cyl in the 3 series, but the price will be very high. i would keep looking for a 4 door 325i 5 speed before you put a 6 cyl into 318.
