Question Injector cleaning

Is it worth it from the dealer?
They want like $150.
Will it work or is it just a direct line to my wallet?

Re: Injector cleaning

If you use good gas, the detergents in the fuel will keep your injectors clean. I've been told by some friends of mine who are engineers in Detroit that Techron fuel additive is the very best for cleaning your injectors via an in-tank additive. They recommended running two consecutive tankfuls through your vehicle with one bottle per tank per the bottle instructions.

Are you having symptoms that make you think the injectors are dirty?

I have a 02 with 35k miles and when at a stop in D with brakes on, I can feel a slight roughness or vibration from the engine through the steering wheel. This was not there when the van was new. I was told this is because the injectors needs cleaning. Is this true? I have run a couple bottles of cleaners but no improvement. I always use Shell or Mobil gas.

Re: Injector cleaning

Welcome to owning a U-body van.

The $150 injector cleaner is a direct line to your wallet. It most likely would do nothing. The only way to properly and throughtly clean an injector is to physically remove it and clean it off bench using a specialized piece of equipment. On-vehicle cleaning may give a temporary improvement but likely wouldn't last.

Your roughness may be coming from other sources. A vacuum leak, bad gas, poor spark/bad plug/bad wire, etc could also be potential sources.
