I tried starting my 2000 GA Se V6 3.4 this morning and nothing happend. The engine wouldn't turn at all. When I tried starting it with a boost, the car would start for about 3 seconds and would turn off.

Any Ideas ???

Dead battery caused the initial problem but the other issue could be anything. One problem with this model is that if the battery fails it may trigger the passlock system to prevent the car from running. Did the security light come on? If so then replace the battery, reset the system and see what happens. Otherwise it could be the fuel pump or any number of other items.

I think that the security light came on for a bit. Do you think reseting the passlock system would get the car to start. I don't think the battery is dead because the light on it is still green.

I'm gonna try the passlock thing but I'm not to sure how to do it.

It won't hurt to try. If it is the passlock then the car should start. Just remember to set the parking brake and turn off all accessories before doing this. Turn the key on for 10 minutes and off for 10 seconds. Repeat this and after the third 10 minute period try to start the car. Good Luck!

I have a 2000 Grand Am SE and mine was doing the same thing. I had to get the starter fixed. If its not that, you might want to try wiggling the wires that cover the spark plugs under the hood. Take them off and then put them back on. The car might start after that.

The green light on the battery is just a little eye and it turns over when the battery is dead but sometimes the light just fails to turn over. I would just put a new battery in and reset the system. possibly putting the new battery in will reset the system all its self.

sounds to me like a bad armature in the starter.

Could also be a shorted out positive battery cable.

I tried boosting the car 1 more time and I managed to get it started. I let the battery charge for about 15 minutes then took it for a drive and it's been running fine ever since. It's been 2 days now and still no problem. I guess It was my battery all along.

Anyways, thanx again for the help.
