Question 95 Astro fuel problem?

I have a 95 Astro and it has recently started to run rough. I don't know the best terminology to use to describe it, but when I accelerate there are hiccups. That is, the van will begin to accelerate, stop for a second, and then resume accelerating. The problem stops instantly if I stop accelerating.

On top of the surging or hiccuping during acceleration, the van has also struggled to start a few times in the past couple of weeks. Each time it eventually turned over, but only after several attempts at turning the key and mashing the accelerator the floor.

Does anyone have any idea where I should start troubleshooting? Does this sound like a possible problem with the fuel system? Thanks for any help.

Re: 95 Astro fuel problem?

How many mile since last tune up?
Any check engine lights?
Start with a good tune up.
Fuel pressure and fuel filter also.

Re: 95 Astro fuel problem?

Start with a proper test of the fuel pressure.

Sounds like you have a weak pump and or a leaking spider unit.

Re: 95 Astro fuel problem?

I'm with CD on checking your fuel pressure.

There is a port on the back side of the engine to check the fuel pressure. Start and run, the pressure should come up over 50 PSI. Shut the engine off and the pressure should hold over 40 PSI for a long while. If it does not come up to 50 PSI or hold at 40 then it sounds like the Fuel pressure regulator on the spider injector unit is leaking. This will over fuel the enigine giving the symptoms you have.

On a 4,3 W engine fuel pressure specs are 55/61
Do not leave home without it.
Also you can have fuel pressure leak off at several places beside the fuel pressure reg.

Re: 95 Astro fuel problem?

Just a thought.
How about a sticking EGR valve?
