Got a quick question. I have a 94 chevy silverardo with 150,000 miles on it. The temp gage seems to jump up right under the red for awhile while driving and then goes back down to the middle of the gage. I'm gonna wait till it cools and give it some antifreeze. This happened once before and I gave it some water and everything was fine. I have been neglecting the truck lately, checking oil, water etc. The oil was low also and I gave it some, a couple quarts. Can that cause it to run hot? There isn't any smell or anything. Just the gage does that. ANy imput? Thanks

Your thermostat is sticking in the closed position.

Thermostat needs to be changed.

low oil can cause it to over heat as well. I would also do a raditor flush when you change the thermostat.
