99 S-10 Blazer died-Oh woe is me

Hello;
well here is my story;
It all started a week ago.I was driveing in town,the blazer sputtered-spitted around for 3 or 4 seconds,then ran normally . My (check engine light) came on when this happened .Went to Advance auto to get the code reading. Dont remember what the code was.The guy told me that i had a misfire code in the No;1 piston.well after he cleared the code, the truck ran great for a week.figured some dirt or something like that ran thru the injector.I was driving it all day today (Hunting coyote)starting and parking,ran great.Now befor i started hunting, i stoped at my mechanic,s shop to set up an appointment to get this checked out. there was a very slight miss in the engine. Figuerd it needed new spark plugs and a tunup.Anyway on the way home from hunting. the truck started losing power fast spitting sputtering within 3 miles. Then suddenly shut off. wouldnt restart, Checked antifreeze (was able to stick my finger in antifreeze)wasnt hot.then checked transmison oil(wasnt hot) looked normal, nice red color. Then checked the motor Oil,
It was steaming hot,(couldnt touch the dipstick) .Oil was at normal levels.
Oil was clean,only 2000 miles On Amsoil synsthetic oil.Now when this all was going down,No engine light came on.The temps was normal before the 3 miles of sputtering. When i got in my truck i turned on the key, the water temp was 220-230.But the water only warm to the touch.Waited an Hour for the wrecker,at this time when he showed up. tried to restart it ,just made a moaning-growling noise.Im going to hate to hear what my mech. will tell me in the morning.I think i covered everything.
Anybody have any ideas what might of went wrong

Don

Hello;
UPDATE;the 99-S-10 Blazer has a blown engine,hard to beleive it only has 80,000 miles on it.The only problem that i ever had with this truck was a fuel pump 2 years ago.had the exhaust head gaskets replace last year.it went out in less than 3 miles.the mechanic gave the bad news around 2;30 today,went to Advance Auto to see what a rebuilt engine cost;Premium engine 4.3 vortec $2800 tax included. cheap rebuilt $ 1700
Auto Zone very close to these prices also.my mechanic told he can do a complete rebuild for $2400 to $2500 total for everything.Man this is really bummin me out bigtime.this truck is cherry inside and out.What would you guys do ? spend the money and redo it or maybe look at another truck.This just makes me sick to even think about it. here,s a picture of my ride;

Candywrapper, Sorry to hear the bad news.
The only thing I could even think of is either a bad thermostat or a pluged up radiator from the Dexcool, along with a faulty coolant tempature sensor?
