cd player installation

I am in the process of replacing a radio with a cd player in a 98 s-10. The installation kit I bought is made by Scosche. The box says it is for 82 and up GM vehicles. When I follow the intructions everything fits like it should except it is about 3/4 of an inch to low. I can't get any of the other brackets to make everything line up. If anyone else has used this brand and knows what is wrong please help. Or if anyone could recomend a different brand that works better it would be very helpfull.

Re: cd player installation

I got my fit kit from Radio Shack, and if I put it on 1 way it sits to low, if I flip it 180 degrees it fits fine.

It's not a good setup though, it pushes the radio into the heater box. It should allow the radio to stick out another 1/4"

Thanks for the help but I ended up making my own brackets out of thin sheet metal and it fits great. My factory radio was huge but the kit I got didn't have a cubby hole, it just had thick edges

I'll take some pictures the next time I have it apart, which will probably be in a couple weeks, but how do I post them. I almost took some pictures the first time but I just wanted it back together so I could drive to work.

Here is a picture of my truck and cd player. The cd player looks crooked because the dash itself is angled slightly and I put it in level, but I'll adjust it and take some pictures pretty soon.

Re: cd player installation

Nice truck, i also have a 98 s-10 and i was just wondering if the part of the dash that you have to pull off to get the stock stereo out is screwed on or if you can just pull it off, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Before you can take the dash off you'll need to loosen the lower dash under the steering wheel. There should be four hex head screws (7mm I think) holding it on. Take out the top two and loosen bottom two. Then remove one in the top of the recessed area where the instrument panel is. If I remember correctly those are the only screws. Now you should be able to carefully pull the dash off. Then disconnect the two connectors on the left side and push the airbag selector back through the dash instead of disconnecting it. I think thats it.
