Question Stereo Upgrade?

Hello everybody!

For Christmas, I recieved alot of Best Buy gift cards ($200 worth).
I really want to upgrade my (stock) 10 speaker monsoon system, but I'm not really sure where to start. I was thinking about replacing the front mids, but I really just don't know enough about this stuff.

What do ya'll think I should do?

Re: Stereo Upgrade?

I've found GM (AC Delco) speakers are not too shabby on response and hold up pretty well when you put some RMS wattage to em. Do you like your factory head unit? The contols/switches? You could pick up a head unit w/ remote contol or a CD changer package, really depends on what ur looking for... How is your Bass response? I would not replace speakers that are not blown and sound decent. I'd either add a head unit w/ some gimmick features or add some rumble.

Re: Stereo Upgrade?

The monsoon is a decent system to me. Although I recently upgraded my base model stereo system and of the 4way speakers front and back and new head unit and so on. The biggest and best component was the box for the back I added which was a 2 12 inch subs with a 600 watt amp to power it up. I got a free replacement new amp for a recalled used one I bought from Pioneer (model 6100F) and it had wiring to set it up to your stock head unit. I am sure best buy can provide advice on the best way to go though but the monsoon speakers from what I have heard already handle mid's and high's pretty well.

If the front speaker/tweeter set-up is Motorolla, then you can leave the fronts alone for last. I would get rid of the rear speakers if you must first. As Formula said, the best way to go is add a sub box and a couple of 12's. I left my stock speakers except for the rear 6x9s which I replaced with Infinity Kappas and it was enough. The way the subs funnel forward thanks to the hatchback makes the bass addition the most noticable for the least amount of money as it doesn't take much to get good bass with the funnel effect.

If i was you.. first off turn up the regular system to whatever volume to usually listen it to, then paying close attention to each speaker listen to them one by one.. if you hear harsh static and popping, its blown and needs replacement.. if all of em sound good then keep em! no use replacing 10 speakers, mids, tweeters etc if they dont need to be y'know? if those are good i'd look into a decent cd player.. my personal fav ( cause its the one i use ) is the newest alpine, but pioneer makes great easy to use cd players.. and whether or not you're into subwoofers or not.. you could look into those for the long run, they tend to get a little exspensive. my box alone was 100$ custom fit for the hatch, two kicker cvr's $300ish.. memphis 1100d about $600.. and a $100 cap.. but overall before making a decision to replace the speakers, see if they need to be and decide what you wanna do with it.

Thanks guys.
I'm pretty sure my front right mid is blown, so I think I'll replace those.
I'd love to put a 10" in my hatch, but I don't have enough money for a sub+special box (I like my TTops) + amp + wiring.
