Re: old license plates pairs 1931-1940

Yes, they are. Old car memorabelia is a hot collectible right now.

Value depends on condition and the willingness of an individual collector to pay.

For the years you mention, values range from a few dollars for individual plates to as much as several hundred for a matching pair in excellent condition.

Finally, some states allow classic auto owners to use a 'year of manufacture' plate on classic cars. For example, if they have a car made in 1931, they can use a set of licence plates from 1931 as the official DOT - registered licence plates for that car.

If your state allows this, your plates (if they are in excellent condition) will be quite valuable - to the right person.

You might be able to get an idea of the "going price" by checking eBay every once in awhile to see what similar plates in similar condition are going for. There are various organizations such as ALPCA ( www.alpca.org) that you could contact for more information about the value of your license plates.
