Question Blower Fan

I was wondering if anybody knows why my blower only works on the 3 and 4 setting ( I don't have any power on the 1 or 2). I first noticed this after I had a stereo installed and i'm thinking it maybe has something to do with a wire they had to disconnect and reconnect (??) . It's rather annyoning because it's either all or nothing. Any suggestions? Is it something easy to fix?

the blower probably uses a resistor to control fan speed. if some work and other speeds don't, then that points to a burnt out resistor through first few speeds.

Did you ever resolve this problem? My daughter has a 2002 Cavalier 2.2L 4 cyl automatic and her blower motor only works in the 3rd and 4th positions.

Blower motor resistor seems to be the common problem here. Not hard to fix , $20 for the part . It is located under dash on passenger side behind blower motor .2 screws hold it in . Hard to get at but DEFINETELY a Do It Yourself job . Get the new resistor before so you will know what you are looking for . I dropped the blower down out of the way when I did mine. 2000 Sunfire

Re: Blower Fan

The last guy has it absolutely right...
coincidence has it that i JUST replaced mine about an hour ago...
it is DEFINITELY a difficult thing to do yourself only because of the
aqward position that the the screws are in and it's a confining place.
If GM's designs were more user friendly this would be an EASY 10
minute job..but with standard tools only, it becomes a bit of a challenge.

Indeed...passenger side, remove the blower fan (3 screws) unclip the clip
to the motor resister blower, then two screws hold that down. unscrew
it then put your new one in and the screw everything back together.

Again i'll reiterate...the ONLY diffuculty in this job is to get the screws
out and back in place.
