02 housing, 1g match 2g?

Comp was acting up when I tried searching so here I am. I know a 2g housing flows better than 1g. Im wondering..will the 2g o2 housing bolt up to stock 1g dp? I'm pretty sure it will bolt up to the turbo fine. Just didn't know about the downpipe for sure? Thanks...

It should bolt right up to it. The only difference is the 2g is ported out way more than the 1g so you may need a larger downpipe to compensate for the difference.

Ok well my dp is 2.5in(for now) but still has the stock flange. I just plan to get all my parts together such as evo3 GT 16g turbo..probably 2g 02....then either a 2g manifold or evo or the GT one. I basically have my fuel stuff ready and I plan to start gathering those parts I just mentioned and an e bay fmic. Thats my plan for the new year as of now. Thanks for letting me know it will bolt up.

I've heard more good than I have bad about the evo 3 gt. It's the turbo Bought and just haven't put on yet. (going on like three months now. I am so lazy.) And most of them have a pretty good warranty on them.

GT one is fully hand ported and has 34mm wastegate. Check it out on dsmparts.com.

The evo iii 16g is made by MHI (mitsubishi heavy industries) and is the turbo used by dsm'ers for YEARS.

On the other hand, the evoiii GT is built by a shoddy chinese company. It's a blatant copy, and is cheaper. Some people swear it's the same turbo, others say the GT is absolute garbage. You can read for yourself, slowboy had an article a while back. The GT does come ported with a larger flapper, but is that worth buying a no-name turbo? Up to you.

I wouldn't risk a GT, especially when it costs nearly the same as a MHI version ;)

And for what its worth, I like the 1g O2 housing. I think I have this info on my porting/boost creep page on my site. The 2g housing has a larger WG runner, but then the assholes put the O2 sensor right in front of it blocking it's flow! WTF? Based on that I speculated that the 2g housing may in fact make boost creep worse, and other poeple that have tried both backed up that theory, but I never saw any real data. Just something to think about.

Thanks.. ill stick with the 1g o2 than. As far as the GT, well i got it in the mail and I think im going to stick it out and try it. Has 1 yr warrany. I am trying to decide what exhaust manifold to go with. Something around the 200 dollar range that will bolt up. I heard rumors that the evo 3 wont bolt up perfect? Help me decide!

I don't think anyone on this site has had problems with the gt, I have one, and a few other people do. I think until some one does have problems that could not be comparable to something a normal 16g would have than there is no reason to say it's not worth a try. Just because it's made by a tawainesse company and not mitsu doesn't mean it's junk.

Yea..thats how I feel so Im going to stick with it. Im trying to decide what manifold to get that will bolt up. I like the evo a lot but Im not sure if it def. bolts up with out any modification? I think I saw someone post around here that they had to modify it to get it on? Im looking for something around the $200 range. Help me decide on something please!!!!!!!

heres a good manifold for ya.

http://www.turbochargers.com/Turbos/TurboUpgrades/evomaniflod.htm

and for the record, the evo 3 GT is NOT made in china. And is sold by Buschur and RRE with a 1 year warranty from both, so its not some shoddy ssautoshit knockoff.

Yea I seen that manifold. Looks real nice like the reg evo 3 manifold. I just would like someone who owns/or worked on the evo 3 manifold let me know if truly bolts on. I am thinking about the evo 3 GT manifold. 145 shipped is very nice.

You might change your mind after reading that link. Of course, it's not like SBR is completely faultless in the whole thing- they are part of the reason that the turbo ended up getting produced. Doesn't really matter though.

You end up with a turbo that has a 35mm flapper stock, and is ported, for the same price.

Keep in mind that the quality level of the parts is not the same, and no one has proven on a dyno, or at the track that it performs "just as well" as the legit MHI unit.
